The “3 Katlı Büyük İstanbul Tüneli Projesi” (Istanbul 3-Deck Tunnel Project) is one of the most ambitious and innovative infrastructure projects in the city of Istanbul. This project aims to significantly improve the public and private transportation system, reducing road traffic and more efficiently connecting the European and Asian sides of the city.

The tunnel was intended to be the first in the world to have three distinct levels, including two dual-lane highways for vehicular traffic and two metro lines, a pioneering development in transportation engineering.


The project, which extends for approximately 6.5 kilometres under the Bosphorus, will reduce travel times between the continents to less than 30 minutes.

The central part of the tunnel will be dedicated to metro lines that will connect the Marmaray Line with the Istanbul Metro, significantly improving the cohesion and efficiency of public transportation. The other two levels will sport two-lane highways in each direction that will facilitate vehicular traffic, offering a convenient and practical solution for those who travel regularly between the European and Asian sides of the city.
